Blackstock Nestleton United Church Women

Blackstock-Nestleton United Church has an active Mary-Martha Unit which meets at the church on the second Tuesday of the month except for July and August when there is no meeting.

Interesting programs are always presented along with meaningful worship periods.

On March 19, 2014 Michelle Adams was installed as the new President of Lakeridge Presbyterial UCW at Dunbarton/Fairport United Church in Pickering, ON for a two-year term. On behalf of Blackstock United Church Women, Shirley Gibson presented her with a corsage.

In April the Mary-Martha UCW Unit puts together a layette for Operation Scugog in Port Perry. Some of the 2014 donations are pictured here.

Each year a JUNE OUTING is planned and enjoyed by all.

In June, 2014, some of the Mary-Martha UCW Unit visited Tyrone United Church’s Foundation Garden after enjoying lunch in Bowmanville and touring the museum there. These June Outings are always enjoyable. In 2015 we attended the theatre in Port Hope and this year (2016) we lunched at the Tea Room in Utica.

On June 13, 2017 the Mary-Martha UCW Unit had lunch at Sunny Brae Golf Club.

June 12, 2018: Several UCW members met at the church at 10:30 a.m. and car pooled to ZimArt Rice Lake Gallery, Bailieboro, ON. This is a wonderful outdoor exhibition of stone carving from Zimbabwe in a lovely rural setting with many trees and beautiful landscaping. All the works are shipped from Africa and are for sale. Each year a different artist in residence is present and this year Tutani Mgabazi spoke to us, explaining the process of stone carving, starting with an uncut rock and ending with a smooth masterpiece, using chisels and sandpaper. While we roamed around the grounds admiring the art on display he kept on working on his current project, shown above.

During our tour we stopped to present Verna McMahon with a UCW Life Membership.

Gail Johns was presented with her UCW Life Membership on June 17, 2018.

Jessie Gunter was presented with her UCW Life Membership on October 9, 2018.

Tallya Moore had received her UCW Life Membership on April 25, 2018.

On June 11, 2019 the BNUC UCW met at the home of Michelle Adams on a beautiful spring afternoon. A delicious pizza lunch was enjoyed after which the ladies tried their hands at “pour painting”, each going home with their project.

2015 03 012
On March 25, 2015 the Lakeridge UCW Presbyterial Annual Meeting was held in Blackstock United Church with Michelle presiding.

Once again the UCW put together a couple of baskets for the Durham Basketeers in the fall of 2017. These baskets are given to women who are leaving women’s shelters to make a fresh start after having left their situations with nothing.
